A Handmade Loom
In search of safety, our refugee friends are forced to leave behind what is familiar. Homes. Tools. Work that once gave rhythm to their days. Many leave with little more than what they can carry, while years of experience and skill are left behind.
In their new country, those skills often cannot be practiced. Not because they are lost, but because opportunity is.
One of our friends is a skilled weaver. Back home, they worked on a loom that had become an extension of their hands. In the rush to find safety, a loom was not something they could even imagine bringing.
So they built one.
Using simple water tubes, they created a loom by hand. It is homemade, practical, and strong enough to do its job. With it, they continue to refine their craft, teach others, and provide for their family.
Even in displacement, creativity survives. Skills are not erased by borders. What is woven now is more than fabric. It is dignity, resilience, and a future shaped by what could not be taken away.
