Detention relief

Refugees can be held indefinitely in a detention center. There are three areas that we focus on to bring relief:

  • IDC Visits  - LRI facilitates visits to the detention center by coordinating a shared document to ensure refugees are being visited. We also help people bring food, water, and toiletries to those inside, and reunite families who are separated.

  • IDC Cooking Program - Through our Cooking Program, refugee mothers, whose husbands are detained, cook food for detainees. The meals are a source of nutrition and provide a taste of home for those in detention. This program empowers women to provide for their families.

  • IDC Bail - Bail is possible and Life Raft focuses on family reunification. A bond must be posted as part of the bail process which allows refugee detainees to live outside of the detention centers.
